1. Webinar: ChatGPT Strengths & Weaknesses

During the insight-packed webinar, ‘ChatGPT in Travel: Strengths and Weaknesses’, Alisdair Luxmoore (Vamoos), Andy Headington (Adido) and Robin Weber Pollack (Journeys International) discussed the strengths and limitations of ChatGPT in the travel sector. Here’s what we learnt:

ChatGPT: capabilities and concerns

ChatGPT can generate predictive text, and has countless applications, including automating customer service responses and crafting personalised itineraries. It offers multilingual support and can access up-to-date information from the internet.

Privacy and data security are a concern when it comes to the information input into ChatGPT, and, as the panel pointed out, it sometimes produces factually inaccurate outputs.

The practical applications of an AI research assistant

ChatGPT is a time-saving research tool, and is skilled at sourcing tailored information. It can also be used for content creation and grammar checks. For travel companies in particular, ChatGPT offers a useful starting point when drafting travel itineraries from scratch, or when converting non-native DMC proposals into polished English.

From customer service chatbots to market research assistants, ChatGPT’s applications are endless. However, as the panel acknowledged, ChatGPT is far from perfect. It can deliver outdated data and has a maximum input restriction, which limits users.

2. Webinar: AI & Itinerary Building

During the webinar ‘Unlocking the Future of Travel Itineraries: How AI Redefines the Journey,’ Andy Headington, Robin Weber Pollak and Alisdair Luxmoore explained how AI tools are revolutionising the creation of travel itineraries. Here’s what they discussed:

Maximising AI in travel

To kick things off, Andy Headington shared his top tips for using AI tools. He stressed the importance of providing detailed briefs to AI, in order to generate outputs which are relevant to your audience. While AI tools like DALL-E3 can be helpful when generating images, Andy also recommended opting for original pictures where possible.

Andy advised travel marketers to edit AI-generated content, so it better aligns with their brand style, and is less likely to be marked as generic by search engines. He explained that AI tools are useful for generating initial drafts, but using your own expertise to refine the copy is the key to creating high quality, trustworthy content, which Google boosts in its search ranking.

Integrating AI into itinerary building

Robin Weber Pollak explained how Grammarly can be used to transform itinerary drafts written by non-native English speakers into engaging and fluent copy. She also recommended using ChatGPT to flesh out travel itineraries with relevant activities recommendations.

Like Andy, Robin argued that AI tools can help to speed up editing and content creation processes, but should be balanced with human intervention, to ensure your itineraries always align with your brand voice.

Using ChatGPT as your content creator

Does the thought of staring at a blank page leave you sweating at the collar? Not to worry – ChatGPT can help to level up your marketing strategy, by creating engaging events headlines, intriguing subject lines for emails and offering useful suggestions to inspire your own content creation.
